Dear Readers,

It sounds somewhat strange. Nature is in full bloom, young birds watching in amazement around them and I present my first five winter landscapes.

So you see how long it takes for the compositions to be constructed, all paintings to be designed and all layers are painted and dried. From December 2010 until May 2011 to be exact.

I have chosen for different compositions, light and color in all five paintings. It proved a challenge to such small sizes to radiate spaciousness in the landscape: "Footsteps near a Tjasker in a winter landscape" (50 x 40 cm) and "Castle Ruins of Heusden in a winter landscape" (40 x 30 cm) are attractive examples.
For my first winter landscape ever "Winter landscape with walkers and dog" (40 x 50 cm), I opted for a rather traditional composition and light, but the painting "Ruins of Castle Bergeijk in a winter landscape" (50 x 40 cm) I painted a bold light and color. It was a long thinking process before my brush toughed the canvas.
The fifth painting "Castle in Nieuwenroij Oudheusden in a winter landscape" (70 x 60 cm) was initially a struggle. I really wanted to compose a composition with two vistas. The castle Nieuwenroij on the left and right a path that seems to dissolve into the mist on the horizon, flanked by old oak trees and where a crow is looking down on a man and his dog. (The man has cut a Christmas tree down from the forest and dragged it to the path, while the dog smells something in the snow.)
Besides, the snow that you can see in the paintings is made up of blue-violet to white-yellow, which means that there is no pure white paint used to create the dramatic light. This also applies to the clouds, which appears white around the hole in the sky. This is actually blue to light violet-gray paint. Anyway, it was a beautiful and interesting experience for me, that certainly gets copied in the future. Now I focus on a few new summer landscapes.

On Saturday, September 10, during the Heritage Days (of old buildings in Holland) at the Museum Cultural Masonic Centre "Prince Frederik" in The Hague (The Netherlands) a few of my romantic landscapes will be exhibited. This day I will also be present. So if you like to watch my work in real life or to discuss it with me, I invite you to come to this event. The paintings will be a half months on display.

Enjoy
