What is the Philosophical Realism?
It's a form of art which I developed where word and image is combined, and where the meaning of the subject is as important as the image. The interaction between the combination of word and image is a mean to get to the subject. This means that the subject itself is not depicted or described.
The Philosophical Realism uses classical means to present this modern art form. It searches for a balance between mind and feelings, between reasoning and aesthetics, with the main goal to stimulate people into philosophising about subjects from this reality.
Let's take for example:"I think therefore I think I am" (Picture on the top left.) You can see this piece of art as the portrayal of an old man if you like. You may ask yourself who the person is, or you can enjoy the image and let it be. But if you would read the words that are written under the image, you will notice that these words give no explanation or an answer whatsoever. The words that are passed to you are part of the complete artwork, and a stimulation to search for the subject and the meaning of it. If you would combine the words and image, you could discover why there is a person depicted, where it stands for, and why he's looking at you the way he does.
The combining of word and image also applies for the landscapes, like the image on the bottom right.
I can, for example, paint a landscape, where I put in a few symbols. You can, just like the portrait, enjoy the image and let it be. But if you would read the words that are written under the image, in this case: “Parcivalius reads the symbols of Anu and Enki in front of the tree of knowledge,” you will notice that these words again give no explanation or an answer whatsoever. You could combine the words and image of the Parcivalius-landscapes, to search for the subject.
In my work I also play with self- created light, composition, metaphysics and perspective. Because of this my depictions can alter from the normal classical paintings.
Thus you can enter the road between mind and riddle. But because the Philosophical Realism gives no answers, you have to interpret for yourself what you read, see and feel.
The Philosophical Realism is searching for, reflect on and enter into all knowledge. And with the presentation of my own quest I hope to encourage you to travel with me.
